If you’re planning to study restaurant, foodservice, or hospitality after high school, here’s what you need to know about the NRAEF scholarships — explained plainly and with the important dates highlighted so you can plan. What the program offers - Each year the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) awards more than $1 million in scholarships to students pursuing post‑secondary degrees in the restaurant, foodservice, and hospitality fields. - Since 1987 the Foundation has invested over $27 million in scholarships and grants, helping more than 6,000 students and food‑service educators. - In addition to student scholarships, the Foundation funds grants for educators and supports individuals seeking industry certifications to advance their careers. Scholarship timeline (mark these on your calendar) - January 15 — Application opens. Start your materials early so you’re not rushed. - March 15 — Application closes. No late applications accepted. - April–May — Applications are reviewed. Use this time to make sure any follow‑up materials are submitted. - June — Award notifications are sent. Check your email (and spam folder). - July–August — Awardees complete claim forms and payments are processed. - August 15 — Final deadline to claim your scholarship. If you don’t claim by this date, you risk losing the award. Quick teacher’s tip: set at least two calendar reminders for the March 15 application deadline and the August 15 claiming deadline — one a week before and another a day before — so nothing slips through the cracks.
