The committee weighs these factors together to determine scholarship eligibility. About test scores - UTA and the Maverick Academic Scholarship are test-optional for the 2026–2027 academic year. Submitting SAT or ACT scores is optional but strongly encouraged. - If a submitted test score would improve a student’s scholarship offer, the score will be considered and included in the review. Non-resident waiver - Some scholarship recipients who are not Texas residents may also receive a non-resident tuition waiver. This reduces tuition and fees to the in-state rate for up to four years, provided the student maintains the required academic standing.
