Women's Ministries Scholarship Program
Scholarship Sponsored by General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists
The General Conference Department of Women's Ministries (GC WM) has established a scholarship program with the aim of providing financial assistance to women who are dedicated to serving the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, but who may not have the means to afford a Christian education. The scholarship awards are determined based on academic achievement, financial need, and community outreach. The specific amount of each scholarship varies annually, depending on the available funds. Please note that these scholarships can only be obtained through your home divisions.
The application deadlines are May 31 and October 31. Applications should be submitted to your division Women's Ministries directors.
Eligibility for this scholarship is open to any woman who intends to attend a Seventh-day Adventist college in the division in which she resides. Priority will be given to those in the final two years of college-level study. The scholarships are awarded based on financial need, ability, and the recipient's determination to improve herself. The recipient must be committed to serving the Lord in whatever way He directs and be dedicated to the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
To apply, you will need to complete an application form, provide a photo, a transcript of your most recent academic year, and three recommendations from your pastor, church leaders, or teachers.
The application should be first submitted to your conference or mission WM director, who will then forward it to the union WM director, then the division WM director, and finally to the GC WM director. If you do not have a conference WM director, you can send the application directly to your union WM director. If there is no conference or union WM director, you can send it directly to your division WM director.
The applications will be reviewed by a scholarship committee appointed by each division WM director. The division WM director will then forward the committee's recommendations to the GC WM Scholarship Committee.
The scholarship recipients are required to sign a "Commitment Statement," agreeing to uphold the standards of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and to use their education to further the mission of the Church. The student must study within her own division, unless a special arrangement is made with the division WM scholarship committee for a specific field of study. The GC WM will implement safeguards to protect the program from nepotism and favoritism. Each institution receiving scholarship funds must agree that these scholarships are in addition to other scholarships available to women at that institution.
The selection process will consider the financial need, leadership skills, academic achievement, and personal commitment to the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of each student. The overall ethnic balance in determining scholarship recipients will also be considered. High school scholarships in developing countries will be considered. The GC WM will consult with Griggs University to develop programs for students in isolated areas.
The scholarships are available to Adventist women in all the world divisions of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The program will be promoted through a brochure, GC WM newsletters, and other available channels. Applications will be processed through the division WM director, who will be part of the screening process. The division WM director will present the candidate's application to her division scholarship committee for approval. Before any funds are transferred, the name recommended by the division committee will be submitted to the GC WM Scholarship Committee for final approval. Where possible, the division WM director will present the scholarships to the student at the university in which she is enrolled. The division WM director will file regular reports with GC WM about the progress of each scholarship recipient.
