ASHRAE High School Senior Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers
Overview
Four one‑year scholarships of $3,000 each are available for high school seniors who will be entering their first year of full‑time college study in a pre‑engineering, engineering, or engineering‑technology program that leads to a bachelor’s degree in a course of study traditionally used as preparation for the HVAC&R profession.
Who is eligible
- Current high school seniors about to begin full‑time, first‑year college study.
- Academic requirement: cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and/or class standing in the top 30%.
- Accepted into an eligible post‑secondary program (see next section).
Eligible programs and institutions
Your college/program must meet at least one of the following:
- The institution has a recognized ASHRAE student branch.
- The program is accredited by ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) or PAHRA (Partnership for Air‑Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration Accreditation).
- The program is accredited by an agency outside the U.S. that is a signatory of the Washington Accord or the Sydney Accord.
- The program is accredited by an agency that has a signed Memorandum of Understanding with ABET.
Application checklist (all items must arrive by the application deadline)
1. Official high school transcript — must be sent directly from your school or registrar (mailed or via an electronic transcript transfer service). Photocopies are not accepted.
2. Letter of admission from the post‑secondary institution you plan to attend.
3. Three signed letters of recommendation:
- One from an instructor or school advisor.
- One from a current or past employer.
- One additional character reference (not a family member).
Submission notes and tips
- All documents must be received on or before the stated deadline to be considered.
- Ask your registrar to send official transcripts directly — doing this early avoids delays.
- Choose recommenders who can speak specifically about your academic ability, work ethic, and character.
- If you’re unsure whether your program qualifies, check with your counselor or the institution’s registrar/engineering department for accreditation details.
If you’d like, I can help you draft your recommendation request email or double‑check your application packet before you submit it.
