MBA Student Broadcaster Scholarship Program
Scholarship Sponsored by Massachusetts Broadcasters Association
If you’re a student thinking about a career in broadcasting — or a station that wants to support the next generation while earning EEO credit — here’s what you need to know about the Massachusetts Broadcasters Association (MBA) scholarship program. Read carefully and follow the checklist below.
Overview
- The MBA supports Massachusetts students who want to pursue careers in broadcast-related fields by awarding scholarships each year.
- Awards: multiple $2,500 scholarships, plus one $4,000 scholarship given in honor of former MBA President Al Sprague.
For students — eligibility and checklist
Who can apply
- Massachusetts permanent residents only.
- Planning to attend or already enrolled at an accredited institution of higher learning.
- Pursuing a career in a broadcast-related field.
What to submit
- A completed scholarship application (fill out every section).
- Official transcript (may be mailed separately).
How to send it
- Email: jordan@massbroadcasters.org (strongly recommended).

Deadlines and rules
- Applications must be emailed or postmarked by Friday, April 17, 2026. Late submissions will not be considered.
- Incomplete applications or faxed submissions will not be accepted.

What happens next
- Participating MBA member stations judge the applications.
- All applicants will be notified whether a scholarship is awarded.
- The MBA may hold up to two scholarship ceremonies at member stations.
Questions
- MBA Executive Director Jordan Walton — 800-471-1875 or jordan@massbroadcasters.org.
For stations — how to participate (summary)
Since 2003, Massachusetts stations have been invited to participate in this statewide, station-funded scholarship program. Participation helps support emerging broadcast talent and can provide stations with EEO credit.
To earn one full EEO credit, a participating Massachusetts nonexempt radio or television station must:
1. Donate the prescribed amount to the MBA Student Broadcaster Scholarship Program (see the radio or TV station agreement).
2. Promote the program via on-air public service announcements, station websites, social media, in-house bulletin boards, etc.
3. Distribute and collect completed scholarship applications (interactive PDF).
4. Participate in the scholarship evaluation process.
Station deadline
- STATION DEADLINE IS MARCH 20.
If you’re a student: apply early, double-check every field, and email your materials if you can. If you’re a station: review the agreement and commit to the steps above so you can qualify for EEO credit while helping future broadcasters.
