Overview
Since 1981 the Engineers Foundation of Wisconsin (EFW) — sponsored by the Wisconsin Society of Professional Engineers (WSPE) — has supported outstanding high school students planning careers in engineering by awarding scholarships based on academic achievement, community involvement, extracurricular activities and financial need. The Louis C. Geiger Scholarship is named for Louis C. Geiger, who as WSPE president in 1968 championed engineering education and this High School Students Awards Program.

Which scholarships are offered
- EFW College Freshman Scholarships (for current high school seniors entering college)
- The Engineering Foundation of Wisconsin Scholarship
- Louis C. Geiger Scholarship: three awards of $3,000 each
- Terry Ni Engineering Scholarship: 1–6 awards, at least $3,000 each (see http://www.tnscholarship.org)
- Robert G. Cooper Scholarship: one award of $3,000
- Harold D. Kobbervig Memorial Scholarship: 3–6 awards of $3,000–$5,000 each (limited to students from high schools in Racine, Kenosha, and Walworth counties)
- Additional scholarships may be awarded by local WSPE chapters to students in their geographic areas

Eligibility requirements (read carefully)
- High school seniors only, entering a 4‑year ABET‑accredited Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology program
- Intention to enter the professional engineering field after graduation
- Minimum GPA: 3.2
- Minimum ACT composite: 26
- Computer Science majors are not eligible

Award details and disbursement
- One‑time grants awarded to the most outstanding applicants who meet eligibility requirements.
- NSPE‑WI statewide may grant up to 14 awards at a minimum of $3,000 each; Terry Ni may fund 1–6 awards as noted above; local chapters may also award grants.
- Scholarship funds will be sent directly to the financial office of the recipient’s college after enrollment is verified.
- Some WSPE‑WI chapters may require interviews.

How winners are notified
- Winners’ high schools will be notified by email.
- Selections will be posted at http://www.wspe.org/scholarships.

Application checklist and formatting instructions
Label and attach the following to your application form (in the order you prefer, but clearly labeled):

1. High school transcript (unofficial acceptable). Include senior year class lists.
2. ACT score printout.
3. Background information — one page, word‑processed, bulleted lists, black 12‑pt Arial font, 1.5 line spacing. Include:
- Extracurricular activities and leadership positions (best 8). For each: hours per activity and total hours for all activities.
- Academic honors and awards (best 5). Do not list sports or extracurricular participation here.
- Work experience (school year and summer). For each job: paid hours worked, brief description of duties, and total work hours.
- Volunteer/civic activities (best 5). For each: hours, brief description, and total volunteer hours.
- Your engineering field(s) of interest and your top two college preferences.
- Explain your motivation to pursue engineering and your vision of a successful career path.
4. Essay — word‑processed, black 12‑pt Arial font, single line spacing, maximum 400 words.
- Do not use artificial intelligence tools (ChatGPT, Co‑Pilot, Gemini, etc.) to prepare the essay content.

By submitting this application you certify that the information is true and complete to the best of your knowledge, and you grant NSPE‑WI permission to release your name and award in NSPE‑WI publications, on the website, and at NSPE‑WI‑sponsored events.
