ALPA Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Air Line Pilots Association
Here’s a clearer, more teacher‑like version of the information, organized so a student (or a parent helping a student) can follow the steps and deadlines.
Overview
This ALPA scholarship is available to children of ALPA pilot members who are medically retired, long‑term disabled, or deceased. The program is intended primarily for students entering college as freshmen, but current college students who meet the eligibility criteria may also apply. The chosen program of study must be creditable toward a bachelor’s degree.
Awards
- One four‑year undergraduate scholarship: total value $60,000, paid as $15,000 per year for up to four consecutive years. Continued disbursement requires maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA.
- One single‑year undergraduate scholarship: $10,000.
Eligibility (who can apply)
- You are the child of an ALPA pilot member who is medically retired, long‑term disabled, or deceased.
- You plan to enroll — or are already enrolled — in a degree program that leads to a bachelor’s degree.
Key dates
- Application deadline: completed application and all required documents must be received by April 1.
- Recipients selected by: July 31.
What you must submit (checklist)
- Completed online application (Parts 1, 2 and 3):
- Part 1 — Application for Scholarship
- Part 2 — Financial Information
- Part 3 — Secondary School Report
- Official high school and/or college transcript(s) (official copies)
- Two letters of recommendation from people who are not related to you:
- one from a teacher
- one from someone who knows you outside of school
- An essay (two pages) explaining why you should receive the ALPA Scholarship
Selection
The ALPA Vice President—Administration/Secretary and the Vice President—Finance/Treasurer review applications and select the recipients.
A final tip from a teacher: start early. Request transcripts and recommendation letters well before the April 1 deadline, draft and revise your essay, and double‑check that every part of the online form is complete.
