Think of your online life as part of your permanent record. Almost anything you post on the Internet can be long-lasting and widely visible — it’s rarely truly private. Putting too much personal information online can have real consequences: a CareerBuilder survey found 43% of employers who checked social media decided not to hire someone, and a Kaplan Test Prep survey reported that 12% of college admissions officers who looked at Facebook profiles chose not to admit an applicant.
