Alabama Academic Elite Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by University of Alabama
Here’s a clear, student-friendly summary of the Academic Elite Scholarship — written the way I’d explain it in class so you can see exactly what matters. Who is eligible and how to keep the award - To be considered, you must be accepted into the Dr. Robert E. Witt University Fellows Program (WUFP). - You must remain an active member of WUFP to continue receiving the scholarship. - For full program details, check the Witt University Fellows website. How competitive is it? - Eight Academic Elite Scholars are named each year. - The applicant pool usually exceeds 1,000 students. - Awards are granted for up to four years. What the awards look like - Seven recipients each receive: - Tuition for four years - One year of on-campus housing at the regular room rate - A $9,000 per year undergraduate supplemental scholarship for four years - The single top recipient receives: - Tuition for four years - One year of on-campus housing at the regular room rate - A $9,000 supplemental scholarship in year 1 - A $19,000 supplemental scholarship in years 2–4 - A one-time $5,000 undergraduate allowance (for research or international study) after completing one year at UA Important limitations and how different aid interacts - You cannot combine the Academic Elite Scholarship with another previously awarded UA merit scholarship or scholarship package. If you qualify for more than one UA merit award, you will receive the higher scholarship package. - Institutional scholarship totals (including any faculty/staff Educational Benefit) cannot exceed the institutional costs listed on the Student Financial Aid Cost of Attendance page. - This cap does not reduce outside aid — veteran benefits, PACT, external agency scholarships, privately funded scholarships, or federal grants and loans are not affected. - If a National Merit Finalist becomes an Academic Elite Scholar, their supplemental scholarship will be reduced by the value of the National Merit stipend. Housing clarification (what “regular room rate” means) - “Regular room rate” is the largest room option available in a dorm. Example: if Riverside, Lakeside, and Ridgecrest offer four-person suites as their largest option, the housing scholarship covers the cost of the four-person suite. If a dorm’s largest option is a double room, the scholarship covers the cost of that double room. If you want, I can help you compare this scholarship to other campus scholarships or walk through an example of how combined aid would be applied.
