ASTATE Spirit Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Arkansas State University
The ASTATE Spirit Scholarship is a financial aid opportunity managed by the Arkansas State University (ASU) Financial Aid & Scholarships Office. For any inquiries regarding this scholarship, please contact the office at (870) 972-2310.
Please note that ASU reserves the right to modify the scholarship program at any time, depending on the availability of funds and the pool of eligible applicants.
This scholarship is specifically designed for high school graduates, and is only awarded during the student's senior year of high school.
The ASTATE Spirit Scholarship offers the following benefits:
- An annual award of $3000, divided equally between the Fall and Spring semesters.
- The scholarship funds can only be used for courses taken on the Arkansas State University-Jonesboro campus.
- The scholarship is granted for eight consecutive semesters or until the completion of the undergraduate degree, whichever comes first, as long as the student continues to meet all scholarship requirements.
To qualify for the ASTATE Spirit Scholarship, students must:
- Be U.S. citizens graduating from high school during their senior year.
- Gain admission to the university, which includes submitting an admissions application with the required fee, official ACT or SAT scores, and an official six-semester transcript.
- Achieve an ACT composite score of 24 and a minimum high school GPA of 3.250 on a six-semester transcript.
- Apply for the scholarship by December 1 of their senior year. Award letters will be mailed in the third week of December. All awards are contingent upon state-supported available funds.
- Please note that the number of awards is limited.
Once awarded the ASTATE Spirit Scholarship, students have certain responsibilities to accept and maintain the award:
- Students must accept their award by May 1 of their senior year, although it is recommended to accept within 30 days. The scholarship offer expires after May 1. If you accept the scholarship and later decide to attend another university, please inform the Financial Aid & Scholarships Office in writing or by email at scholarships@astate.edu.
- Students must enroll full-time with 15 college-level credit hours on the ASUJ campus during each consecutive Fall and Spring semester. Concurrent enrollment at another campus cannot be used to meet full-time enrollment status nor be paid for by the scholarship. Enrollment is locked as of the 11th class day.
- Students must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree.
- Online programs are not eligible for Institutional Scholarships.
- Students must matriculate to ASUJ in the Fall semester immediately following high school graduation.
- Any student who enrolls full-time at another college, university, technical college, or branch of ASU during a regular semester (Fall or Spring) following high school will automatically forfeit the scholarship.
- Students taking a developmental course as part of their 15 ASUJ hours and planning to test out of the course must contact the Scholarships Office before taking the test to discuss possible options for keeping the scholarship.
- All college coursework is calculated into the overall GPA for scholarship renewal.
- Students who have grade changes are responsible for contacting the Scholarships Office so that their scholarship status can be reevaluated.
- For military exceptions, contact the ASU Scholarships Office at (870) 972-2310.
- Recipients may take classes at the Paragould campus and receive their scholarship.
- Award holders who are dependents of faculty and staff will receive 25% of the scholarship value per semester for ASUJ credit hours in addition to the faculty/staff discount.
To renew the ASTATE Spirit Scholarship, students must:
- Maintain an overall 3.250 GPA and successfully complete 30 ASUJ hours (Fall and Spring combined) each academic year. Students with incomplete grades will forfeit their scholarship if they do not otherwise meet the scholarship criteria. Accepted transfer credits will be calculated into the overall GPA.
- Any student who receives all W’s, F’s, WN’s, I’s and/or FN’s at the end of any fall term (including Freshman year) will lose their scholarship for all subsequent semesters.
- If a Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior level recipient does not meet their renewal criteria at the end of the spring semester, they will have until the end of that Summer II term to obtain an overall 3.250 GPA and successfully complete 30 ASUJ hours (Fall, Spring, and both Summer I and Summer II combined) or they will forfeit the scholarship for all subsequent semesters. All classes taken during probation for hour and GPA deficit must be ASUJ hours.
