Fuhrman Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Valley County Community Foundation
Here’s a clearer, more teacherly version of the scholarship notice. I kept all the original requirements but organized them so a student can see at a glance what’s required and why.
Scholarship (minimum award $1,000)
- Who may apply: Students in their second year of post‑secondary study (university, specialized institute, or trade school).
Eligibility (residency/education)
- You must have attended a Valley County high school for three consecutive years and graduated from a Valley County high school.
- OR you may present a Home School Certificate or a GED if you have lived in Valley County for the three years leading up to that certification.
Academic requirements
- You must have completed at least one year of study at a post‑secondary institution (university, specialized program, trade school, etc.).
- Maintain a minimum 2.8 GPA. Please attach a current college transcript to your application.
Community involvement
- You must have been involved in community activities such as church groups, 4‑H, Key Club, Scouts, or volunteer work at a hospital, nursing home, or similar organization.
Financial need
- Demonstrate monetary need. Include a short paragraph explaining why you need the scholarship and how it will help you cover educational costs.
Application materials
- Two letters of recommendation, signed and dated, no more than one year old. At least one letter should come from your secondary institution (for example, your Valley County high school or the school where you completed secondary study).
- A written paragraph (or more) describing your academic plans and career goals.
- Current college transcript (see Academic requirements).
Helpful tips (from a teacher)
- Be specific in your financial‐need paragraph: list expected costs and other sources of aid.
- In your goals statement, include concrete next steps (courses, internships, degree plans) so reviewers can see you have a plan.
- Ask recommenders early so their letters are signed and dated within the one‑year requirement.
If you’d like, I can help you draft the financial‑need paragraph or review your goals statement before you submit.
