If you’re a graduating senior at Tussey Mountain School District and planning to go straight on to college, read this carefully — it’s a small scholarship with a clear purpose.

Purpose and background
- This scholarship was established by James McCavitt in memory of his parents, James A. McCavitt and Annie LePors McCavitt. Inspired by a newspaper story about the Sze Lee Memorial Scholarship, Mr. McCavitt wanted to create a legacy in the Broad Top area that echoes his parents’ advice: “Get an education and make something of yourselves.” The award is intended to support students who plan to enter service-oriented fields.
Who should apply (eligibility)
- You must be a current graduating senior from Tussey Mountain School District (PA).
- You must plan to enroll full time at a college or university.
- You should demonstrate financial need.
- You should show a genuine desire to contribute knowledge and service in fields such as education, nursing, law enforcement, medical research, or social work.
How to apply
- The application window opens January 1, 2025, and closes April 11, 2025 at 3:00 PM.
- To be considered, please contact Wendy Gates for the application form and a list of required documents. If you have questions about what to include (transcripts, FAFSA information, recommendation letters, etc.), ask Wendy — she’ll tell you exactly what the committee needs.
