Overview
This scholarship was established by James McCavitt to honor his parents, James A. McCavitt and Annie LePors McCavitt. He was inspired after reading about the Sze Lee Memorial Scholarship and wanted to create a way for his parents’ legacy to live on in the Tussey Mountain School District and the Broad Top area. Their message—“Get an education and make something of yourselves”—is what this award hopes to encourage.
Who should apply
- Current graduating seniors of the Tussey Mountain School District (PA)
- Students planning to enroll full time at a college or university
- Those with demonstrated financial need
- Students who intend to study in service-oriented fields (examples: education, nursing, law enforcement, medical research, social work) and who plan to use their education to benefit others
How to apply
- Application period begins January 1, 2026.
- To be considered, contact Wendy Gates.
- Be prepared to document financial need and explain how your chosen field is service-oriented. It’s helpful to have a short personal statement about your goals and a copy of your transcript ready when you contact Wendy.
