Arthur M. & Berdena King Eagle Scout Scholarship

Scholarship Sponsored by National Society, Sons of the American Revolution

Value: $10,000
Awards Available: 15
Deadline : Dec 31, 2025

The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) is calling on all Eagle Scouts with an interest in the American Revolution to join the Arthur M. & Berdena King Eagle Scout Contest. The competition is accessible to all Eagle Scouts who are presently enrolled in an active unit and, barring the exception noted in the following paragraph, have not turned nineteen during the application year. The year in which the Eagle rank was achieved is not a factor. The contest runs from January 1 to December 31.

The prize structure is as follows: The National First Place Winner is awarded $10,000; 2nd Place gets $6,000; 3rd Place receives $4,000; 4th Place gets $2,000; 5th Place is awarded $1000; positions 6th to 10th receive $500; and 11th to 15th get $200. The First Place Winner will be invited to the SAR Annual Congress, typically held in June or July, for recognition and award presentation. Expenses for travel and accommodation will be covered.

Winners can choose to receive their awards as cash or as a scholarship to an educational institution.

An Eagle Scout can enter the contest multiple times, provided they have not turned 19 in the application year and have not previously won First Place in the National contest. SAR Chapter and State Society levels may also offer prizes and recognition. Each Eagle Scout must submit an application form, a four-generation ancestor chart, and a 500-word essay on a patriotic theme.

The contest is organized in three stages: the local Chapter level, State Society level, and National level. Typically, participants enter at the Chapter level, but in some instances, entry at the State Society level is possible. Entry at the National level is not permitted. Contestants only need to submit one application for the SAR Chapter level competition. The winning application at the Chapter level is then forwarded for consideration at the State Society and National levels as deemed appropriate by the SAR. A comprehensive set of rules, along with the application for both the applicant and the sponsoring SAR members, can be found on the Eagle Scout Application Form, which can be downloaded via the link below. Please note that application deadlines may vary locally, so interested applicants are advised to contact the local SAR State Eagle Scout representative listed below for more information.
