Here’s a clearer, teacher-friendly version of the eligibility rules and disqualifiers. Read through both sections before you apply so you don’t miss anything important.
Who may apply (basic eligibility)
- You must be the child or step‑child of one of the following:
- An active duty, Reserve, or veteran U.S. Marine; or
- A Marine who was killed while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps; or
- An active duty, Reserve, or veteran U.S. Navy Corpsman, Navy Chaplain, or Religious Program Specialist who was attached to a U.S. Marine Corps unit (or was killed while serving with a Marine Corps unit).
- Minimum cumulative GPA: 2.00.
- Demonstrated financial need: family adjusted gross income (AGI) of $129,000 or less.
- You must be attending or planning to attend an accredited school that is eligible for federal funding.
- You must submit a completed application with all required supporting documents by the posted deadline.
What will make an application ineligible (disqualifications)
You are NOT eligible if any of the following apply:
- The military parent or veteran parent does not have an honorable discharge.
- The applicant already holds an undergraduate degree.
- The applicant (or an awarded scholar) is attending a Federal Service Academy.
- The school the applicant is attending (or plans to attend) is not listed on College Navigator or is otherwise not eligible for federal funding.
- The applicant’s military stepparent is no longer married to the applicant’s biological parent.
- The applicant will not have a high school diploma by August 1, 2025. (Note: we cannot support dual‑enrollment or early‑access programs.)

- Double‑check the deadline and that every required document is included—missing documents are a common reason applications are rejected.
