AED Superstore, a nationwide distributor of automated external defibrillators and related accessories, is committed to raising awareness and education about CPR and AEDs. Operating under Allied 100, LLC, and based in northern Wisconsin, AED Superstore is proud to offer a bi-annual scholarship of $1,000 to eligible students.

It's important to understand the severity of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), a condition that claims over 350,000 lives each year outside of hospital settings. Despite its prevalence, many individuals remain unaware of its dangers. Here are six crucial facts about SCA and automated external defibrillators (AEDs):

A) SCA can strike anyone, at any time, irrespective of age, race, or gender.

B) Approximately 16 individuals under the age of 18 are affected by SCA daily.

C) Only 1 in 10 individuals who experience SCA outside of a hospital survive.

D) The survival rate for SCA victims decreases by 10% for every minute without proper defibrillation; after 10 minutes, survival chances are almost non-existent.

E) AEDs are user-friendly, providing voice prompts to guide the rescuer through each step.

F) Good Samaritan Laws legally protect voluntary rescuers aiding those in sudden cardiac arrest distress.

Choose one of the above facts that surprised you, that you were previously unaware of, or that you wish more people knew about. Then, devise a creative way to raise awareness in your community about your chosen fact. Submit either a video, less than 3 minutes, or a short essay, less than 500 words, which describes and/or shows us what you did.

Your submission must include the following:

A) The fact you're choosing, prefaced with "I didn't know that…" or "I wish more people knew…"

B) Your reasons for choosing to raise awareness of that fact

C) Your method of raising awareness in your community about your chosen fact

Eligibility requires you to be a legal U.S. resident, either a college-bound high school senior or a student currently enrolled in an accredited university.

Please note, by submitting an essay or video, you grant AED Superstore an unlimited license to use your submission in whole or in part as they see fit, and you relinquish any copyright to your submission. If you disagree with these terms, please refrain from applying for the AED Superstore Scholarship.

Scholarship checks will be made co-payable to the selected student and the university of their choice unless otherwise specified.
