JFLF’s Welding Awards Program supports arc welding education, design and innovation at every level — from 4‑H and high school programs to college courses. We honor outstanding welding projects and technical papers, and we also recognize the instructors and professional welders who advance the science and craft of arc welding. In short: the program rewards today’s emerging welders and helps move the field forward for tomorrow.
Key points for students and teachers
- Who may enter
- Any student 18 years old or younger who is enrolled in a school or training program is eligible to submit an arc welding project.
- What to submit
- Students submit a written report describing a welding project they completed. The project can be:
- a structure,
- a repair, or
- an item made for home, farm, shop, or recreational use.
- Team work
- Projects may be solo or done with a team of up to five students (team entries require instructor approval).
- How entries are judged
- Division I entries are first evaluated at the regional level. Regional winners then become eligible for national awards.
If you’re a student interested in entering, talk with your instructor about eligibility and whether to enter solo or as a team. If you’re an instructor or mentor, consider encouraging well-documented, safety-minded projects—this program is a great way to showcase student skill and creativity.
