Overview
Each year the Beaufort County Farm Bureau awards one $1,000 scholarship to a student pursuing a degree in agriculture or an agriculture-related field. The scholarship’s purpose is to support young people from Farm Bureau member families who are committed to agriculture and to encourage the development of leadership skills for careers in agriculture, civic life, and public service.
Who is eligible
- Must be a member of a Beaufort County Farm Bureau member family. (Call the county office at the number above for membership questions.)
- Open to graduating high school seniors and to college students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs in agriculture or an ag-related major.
- Minimum cumulative GPA: 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. A certified copy of your most recent transcript is required.
- Scholarship funds will be applied to tuition, books, and lab fees at an accredited two- or four-year college, or a graduate institution.
- The scholarship may be renewed for one or more years, but the student must re-apply and be approved for each renewal.
Selection process and criteria
The recipient is chosen by a selection committee from another South Carolina Farm Bureau county, following guidelines set by the Beaufort County Farm Bureau Board of Directors. Selection is based on:
- Character
- Demonstrated leadership
- Commitment to agriculture or related fields
Only applicants who meet the eligibility criteria will be considered. The committee’s decision is final. The Beaufort County Farm Bureau Board of Directors reserves the right to amend these guidelines.
Application requirements (must be received by August 1)
- Completed application form
- Certified copy of your most recent transcript
- One reference
- Personal statement describing your interest in agriculture, leadership experiences, and career goals
A couple of quick tips (from a teacher)
