Marge Karker Scholarship

Overview
This scholarship was created in the late 1960s to honor Marge Karker. Each year three students receive $1,000 awards. Recipients must be enrolled in an agriculture program at Michigan State University.
Who was Marge Karker
Marge Karker worked for the Michigan Farm Bureau for 37 years and coordinated the Women’s Programs. Between 1944 and 1964 she led members in projects related to citizenship, health, education, legislation, public relations, safety, and community betterment. Her work helped build the foundation for today’s Promotion & Education and Young Farmer programming.
Who may apply (eligibility)
- Must be from a Farm Bureau member family, or if married or age 21 or older, have your own Farm Bureau membership and be a member in good standing.
- Must be a current MSU student enrolled in an agricultural program (two-year, four-year, or post-graduate).
- Must have completed at least one year of study at MSU.
- Minimum cumulative GPA: 2.6 on a 4.0 scale (submit an official MSU transcript).
Award details and disbursement
- Three awards of $1,000 each.
- This is a gift, not a loan.
- Funds will be applied directly to recipients’ MSU student accounts through the MSU Office of Financial Aid in the semester following the award presentation (Spring 2024).
Application materials and deadline (what to submit)
- Completed application form.
- Official MSU transcript.
- Two letters of recommendation submitted with the application.
- All materials (application, letters, and transcript) must be received by Michigan Farm Bureau on or before October 1, 2024.
Selection and notification
- A panel of State Promotion and Education Committee members will review all applications.
- Recipients will be notified after the review.
- Scholarship winners will be publicly recognized at the Michigan Farm Bureau Annual Meeting.
