Kentucky Youth Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Kentucky Association of Fairs & Horse Shows
To be considered for the scholarship awards, individuals should adhere to the following eligibility requirements:
- The candidate should be a young individual who has actively volunteered at the local county fair within the current year. The local fair will have the discretion in choosing these youths.
- The eligible youth should either be a high school senior, or in their first year of post-secondary education, and should not have turned 21 years by October 1st of the application year.
- The youth being nominated should reside within the county of the nominating fair.
- The application procedure involves writing an essay on the topic: "How has participation/volunteering at your county fair opened up opportunities for you?" The essay should not exceed 500 words.
- All applications should be accompanied by a one-page recommendation letter from the local fair board.
- Only one entry is allowed per fair.
- A total of six winners will be selected from across the state, with two from each zone.
- The winners will be chosen by an awards committee through a judging process before the annual meeting.

- Each winner will be awarded a $2,000 Cash Scholarship and a plaque.
- An individual can win the scholarship only once.
- It is advised that the scholarship recipients attend the annual business meeting in January to receive their awards.
Each county fair that organizes events for a minimum of three days can nominate one youth for the scholarship. The scholarship committee will choose two youths from each zone based on the applications. The awards will be presented at the annual meeting of the Kentucky Fair and Horse Show Association (KAFHS) in January. All applicants will be informed about the results via mail, with winners also being contacted via phone/text.
Entries can be returned to LuAnn Asbury, 2853 Asbury Rd., Augusta, KY 41002 or emailed to luasbury@outlook.com. The fair contact will confirm receipt. All entries should be postmarked or emailed by October 1st at the latest. Late applications will not be considered.
Each application should include the following:
- A list of events/classes the applicant participated in at the fair this year.
- A list of tasks and responsibilities carried out by the applicant at the county fair from their first year up to the current year.
- An Essay from the applicant describing how their involvement in local fair activities has improved their personal life skills. The essay should not exceed 500 words.
- A Letter of Recommendation from a local fair board member. The letter should not exceed one typed page.
