Doris Karlik Local Scholarships

Equity and opportunity for women and girls are at the heart of AAUW’s work—nationally and in our branch. Through our branch’s Charitable Foundation we award the Doris Karlik Local Scholarships to women from Palm Beach County who are beginning or continuing undergraduate study, and we sponsor one local student to attend AAUW’s National Conference of College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL) in Maryland. Scholarship winners and the NCCWSL attendee are honored at our annual May installation-of-officers dinner.

Who is eligible
1. Resident of Palm Beach County, Florida.
2. U.S. citizen (by birth or naturalization).
3. Attending, or planning to attend, an accredited Florida college, university, or trade school for undergraduate study.
4. Minimum 3.0 GPA — for high school seniors use your high school GPA; for current college students use your college GPA.
5. Able to submit a completed application with the required personal statements.

What to include (checklist)
- Completed application form (including personal statements — see page two of the application)
- Unofficial transcript (high school transcript if you are a senior; college transcript for current college students)
- Two letters of reference submitted directly by the writers (one should be from a teacher or professor). Ask your recommenders to send their letters well before the deadline.

Important submission instructions
- ALL MATERIALS MUST BE POSTMARKED BY U.S. MAIL BY MARCH 20, 2026. Electronic submissions will not substitute for the mailed packet unless specifically stated otherwise.

Selection process
- Applications will be reviewed and GPAs/funding sources verified before final awards are made.
- The Scholarship Committee may request personal interviews.
- Awards are based on GPA, the written personal statement of career goals, demonstrated financial need, and family responsibilities.
