PHCC Educational Foundation Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by PHCC Educational Foundation
PHCC Educational Foundation — Scholarship Overview (clear, teacher-friendly) Why this exists - The PHCC Educational Foundation helps qualified people get a fair start in the plumbing-heating-cooling trades by partnering with industry sponsors to provide scholarships each year. These awards are meant to reduce financial barriers and encourage success in the p-h-c professions. Who should apply - Plumbing and HVAC apprentices and trade-school students. - College students enrolled in majors directly related to plumbing, heating, cooling, or closely related mechanical fields. A note to contractors (short and direct) - Encourage your apprentices to apply. Even if your company covers apprenticeship training, a scholarship can offset costs and give the apprentice a meaningful achievement. - Limit company submissions to four applicants. Choose your strongest candidates and support them in applying. Key dates and what to expect - Application period: January through May 1 (all materials due by May 1). - Review: Applications are reviewed by a contractor committee over the summer. - Winners selected: Late July. - Notification: All applicants receive status updates in August. How to apply (for apprentices/technicians who work for PHCC members) 1. Complete the online application form. 2. Upload an employer recommendation letter (from the PHCC contractor business owner or the apprentice’s manager). You can use the SAMPLE RECOMMENDATION LETTERS on the PHCC site to speed this up. 3. Answer the five online questions about your background and interests. 4. Optional: Upload school grades and a recommendation from your apprenticeship program instructor. Eligibility — who qualifies - U.S. legal residents (citizens, green card holders, etc.). Canadian citizens may apply only if they are enrolled in a PHCC-approved plumbing or HVACR apprentice program and are working full-time for a licensed plumbing or HVAC contractor who is a PHCC member. - Applicants must be currently enrolled in, or plan to enroll in, one of the following: 1) A PHCC-approved plumbing or HVACR apprentice program or the Foundation’s Fast Track to Service & Repair online courses. Apprentices/technicians must also be working full-time for a licensed PHCC-member plumbing or HVAC contractor. Approved courses: plumbing or HVACR installation, service, and repair. 2) A full-time certificate or degree program at an accredited two-year community college, technical college, or trade school with a major directly related to the p-h-c profession. Approved majors include: - Business management - Mechanical CAD design - Construction management (specialty: mechanical construction) - Plumbing or HVACR installation, service, and repair 3) A full-time undergraduate degree program at an accredited four-year college or university with a major directly related to the p-h-c profession. Approved majors include: - Business management - Construction management (specialization: mechanical construction) - Mechanical engineering - Limit: No more than four employees from any one employer may win an award in a single year. Important notes (read carefully) 1. If your school calls the program by a different name than the approved majors listed, include official school documentation that describes the major and course of study so reviewers can confirm it’s relevant to the p-h-c industry. 2. Full-time student status means at least 12 semester hours of credit or the minimum number required by your institution to qualify as full-time—whichever is greater. 3. PHCC of Massachusetts Auxiliary Award: To be eligible for this specific award you must be a Massachusetts resident attending (or planning to attend) a four-year college. This award has no restrictions on course of study. Questions or help - If you’re unsure about eligibility or what to upload, contact the Foundation or your PHCC representative early. It’s better to confirm eligibility before submitting than to be delayed after the deadline. Apply thoughtfully — pick your strongest candidates and give them a hand with their materials. A well-prepared application makes a big difference.
