Overview
We offer scholarships through the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary to support young people connected to the AMVETS family and to members of the Ladies Auxiliary. Scholarships are intended to recognize academic achievement, support financial need, and encourage careers that benefit our communities. Encourage every eligible student you work with to apply for every scholarship for which they qualify.

Who we are
We are mothers, wives, widows, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, step-daughters, and granddaughters of AMVETS, and female veterans who are currently serving or who have honorably served in the U.S. Armed Forces (including National Guard and Reserve) anytime after September 15, 1940.

Funding and donations
You can donate in memory of a deceased member or to honor someone for birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, etc. Fundraising examples include walk-a-thons, bike-a-thons, and silent auctions.

Key dates
- Application deadline (postmarked): May 22, 2026
- Scholarships will be judged and awarded at the AMVETS Department Convention in June.
- At least one scholarship of no less than $1,000 will be awarded; additional awards of equal or lesser amounts may be given as funds allow.
- Winning recipients will be announced at the June convention. Checks will be mailed within three days after the convention closes.

Eligibility (basic)
1. Applicant must be a member of AMVETS, AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary, Sons of AMVETS, or a spouse, child, or grandchild of a member of the AMVETS family.
2. Applicant must be a high school graduate by June 30 of the application year, or be attending an accredited college or university leading to a degree.
3. Applicant must be a resident of the State of Michigan.

Application checklist (what you must submit)
All items below MUST be submitted and postmarked by May 22, 2026 to the Department of Michigan AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship Officer.

1. Completed application — neat, legible, typed or clearly printed.
2. Statement of financial need — fully completed. If you are or were employed, include a W-2 form.
3. List of financial aid provided by parents or guardian.
4. Official transcript(s):
- An official high school or college transcript with raised seal or raised watermark showing cumulative GPA and total credits, OR
- A notarized high school equivalency certificate with scores.
- If the transcript does not yet reflect graduation, include a letter on official school letterhead confirming graduation by June 30.
- A self-generated computerized transcript is NOT acceptable.
5. If you are a first-year college student, include an official letter of acceptance on school letterhead from an accredited college or university.
6. Proof of eligibility: copy of applicant’s or sponsor’s AMVETS family membership card.
7. Mail the complete packet so it is postmarked no later than May 22, 2026 to: Department of Michigan AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship Officer.

Judging criteria
Applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee composed of active AMVETS family members. The scoring breaks down as follows:
- 40% — Financial need (information provided on application)
- 30% — Academic record (official transcripts, grading system explanation)
- 20% — Goals (personal statement/goal information)
- 5% — Volunteerism
- 5% — Grammar and punctuation

Tips from a teacher
- Start early. Collect official transcripts and membership proof well before the deadline.
- Double-check that transcripts have the required raised seal or watermark.
- Type your application and personal statements when possible; neat, clear writing matters.
- Make copies of everything you send and keep proof of mailing.
