Florida Nurses Association Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Florida Nurses Association
Quick overview — what the Florida Nurses Foundation (FNF) does
- The Foundation advances nursing and healthcare through research, education, and practice.
- Each year FNF awards scholarships and grants to qualified nursing students and registered nurses.
- Thanks to generous donors and FNA member endowments, there are more than 30 named scholarships. Typical awards are about $1,000.
Important timeline (mark your calendar)
- Application period: January 1 — June 1 (no exceptions).
- Notifications: July–August.
- Funds distributed and scholarship recognition: September (recipients are invited to the Annual Foundation Luncheon; on years when Membership Assembly occurs, there may be a formal award ceremony).
- Do not call before August about award status.
How to apply — quick checklist
1. Complete the online application at https://www.floridanurse.org/page/ScholarshipsGrants.
2. Upload one letter of reference.
3. Upload your current official or unofficial transcript (must be received by June 1).
4. Submit the complete packet before June 1. Incomplete applications will be held open only if you resubmit required documents by the deadline.
Note: You do not apply for a specific named scholarship; FNF matches applicants to the scholarship(s) that best fit their profile.
Who is eligible
- You must be enrolled in a nationally accredited nursing program (ACEN, CNEA, or CCNE).
- Program types accepted: LPN programs; for RNs — associate, baccalaureate, master’s, or doctoral programs (doctoral degrees may be in nursing or other fields, e.g., PhD, EdD).
- You must have completed at least one semester in your current nursing program by June 1.
- You must have been a Florida resident for at least one year.
Selection criteria
- GPA minimums unless an individual fund specifies otherwise:
- Undergraduate: minimum 2.5 GPA
- Graduate: minimum 3.0 GPA
- Demonstrated potential to contribute to the nursing profession and to society.
- Additional requirements may apply for specific endowed funds (see the Scholarships & Grants page for details).
Application details and responsibilities
- Only completed application packets are reviewed. After you upload your packet, you will receive a confirmation email — keep it.
- It is your responsibility to ensure transcripts arrive by the June 1 deadline. If transcripts are missing, your application is incomplete and won’t be reviewed.
- Make and keep copies of everything; originals and supporting documents become the property of FNF and are not returnable.
- If you are awarded a scholarship and then withdraw from your nursing program before completing the applicable semester/year, you agree to repay the award.
- Recipients must agree to:
- Participate in follow-up surveys related to the Scholarship Program.
- Allow publication and public distribution of scholarship announcements and photos for promotional/educational purposes.
- The award decision and recipient names are announced between August and September. Please do not call before August asking whether you received an award.
What you will be asked to provide in the application
- School and program details (dates enrolled, area of study, etc.)
- Education, experience, and professional activities
- Financial information (your income, spouse’s income if applicable, and number of dependents)
- Two short written statements (space is limited on the form):
- Statement of Need — explain why you need financial support
- Statement of Goals / Potential for Contribution — explain your professional goals and how you will contribute to nursing and society
Writing tips (from a teacher)
- Follow the space limits. Type your statements in a Word document first if that helps, then paste them into the form.
- Be concrete: give short examples of your experience, goals, and how you’ll contribute to the field.
- Proofread; clear, concise writing stands out.
