Harvey E. Anderson Scholarship

Scholarship Sponsored by Rochester Community Foundation

This scholarship is designed to recognize and reward students who have shown dedication and commitment to both their academic and athletic pursuits within Section V sports. We are looking for individuals who have demonstrated self-motivation and have gone above and beyond in their efforts.

Application Period

To apply for this scholarship, students must first be nominated by their school's athletic director or sports coach. A nomination code is necessary to access the application form. The application period runs from December 1st to February 28th.

Award Details

The scholarship consists of one award of $4,000 each for a male and a female athlete. This is paid out as $1,000 per year for up to four consecutive years of undergraduate study. In addition, there is a one-time, non-renewable award of $1,000 for both a male and a female runner-up. The award is paid in the Fall and divided equally between the Fall and Spring semesters.

Use of Award

The scholarship funds can be used to cover tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with higher education.

Eligibility Criteria

This scholarship is open to college-bound graduating seniors who have participated in athletics at Section V schools. Each school within Section V may nominate one male and one female student to apply. The ideal candidates are not necessarily the most naturally gifted athletes or scholars, but those who have shown exceptional effort in their studies and chosen sports. Financial need may be considered, but it is not the primary determining factor.

Application Process

Only nominations from Section V schools are accepted for this scholarship. The application process is coordinated through the Community Foundation and Section V, with each eligible school nominating one male and one female student.

Interested students should consult with their athletic director, coach, or counselor in November to learn more about this scholarship. Nominators should contact the Community Foundation at scholarships@racf.org in November to request an access code and application instructions to share with their nominees on December 1st. Nominated students will receive an invitation to complete the application.

Selection Process

The selection process is coordinated through Section V. A committee made up of Section V representatives and other community members reviews the applications and selects the recipients.

Award Announcement and Payment

The Community Foundation will email an award notification with instructions for claiming the award to the recipient in the Spring. The payment is mailed to the college for the recipient’s account in one lump sum in the Fall and split between the Fall and Spring semesters once required documentation is received.

To release the initial winner or one-time runner-up scholarship payment, upload your class schedule and tuition bill verifying enrollment to the Community Foundation’s online Scholarship Portal between July 1 and August 15. For subsequent winner scholarship payments, upload the requested and required information, including your unofficial transcript, class schedule and tuition bill verifying continued enrollment and a minimum 2.5 GPA to the Community Foundation’s online Scholarship Portal between July 1 and August 15. Scholarships not claimed by February 15 in the assigned year will be forfeited.

Renewability

The winner scholarship is renewable up to three times for a total of four consecutive annual awards. Please refer to the Award Announcement and Payment section for more information. Please note that the runner-up scholarships are one-time awards and are not renewable.
