GHA Marjorie Hogan Workforce Development Scholarship

Background and purpose
In 1993, retired GHA Executive Director Glenn Hogan established an endowment through the Georgia Hospital Research and Education Foundation (GHAREF) in honor of his late wife, Marjorie. Mr. Hogan’s intention for the fund was straightforward and generous: to provide “financial assistance to young people desiring to prepare for a career in the health care field.” Since then, the Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) has used the endowment to award financial support to both high school students and working health care employees who are continuing their education.
How the program helps students
Think of the endowment as seed funding for the next generation of health professionals. It can take several forms, including:
- Scholarships for post‑secondary study, and
- Small stipends to help students attend professional events and leadership activities.
HOSA partnership — a practical link to experience
GHA furthers workforce development through a formal partnership with the Georgia chapter of HOSA — Future Health Professionals (formerly Health Occupation Students of America). With GHA funding, Georgia HOSA:
- Offers post‑secondary scholarships to HOSA students who have worked or volunteered at a GHA‑member hospital, and
- Provides stipends so those students can participate in HOSA events, such as the Annual Leadership Conference.
