Accountability and Morality Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by O'Connor, Acciani and Levy
The esteemed personal injury law firm of O’Connor, Acciani & Levy is delighted to announce the 2023 Accountability & Morality Scholarship. This initiative is founded on the belief that every entity, including corporations, should be held accountable for their actions. Every decision, whether made by an individual or a corporation, has a ripple effect on the surrounding people and environment. These effects can be both positive and negative, and range from minor to significant.
As the great Mahatma Gandhi once stated, “it is wrong and immoral to seek to escape the consequences of one’s acts.” This principle is easier to uphold on an individual level, as we can control our actions and accept responsibility for our mistakes. However, when corporations err or a product has unforeseen side effects, the question of accountability becomes more complex. We invite you to reflect on a time when you had to take responsibility for your actions or those of others. Consider both the positive and negative experiences you've had. How have your actions and perspective influenced both you and those around you?
After all submissions have been collected, they will be carefully reviewed. The top five applicants, who best describe a time when a corporation's actions resulted in harm to an individual or group, and how the victims navigated their situation and held a specific party accountable, will each receive a $1,000 award for their insightful essays.
