Quick overview
Illinois produces plenty of talented engineers, but too many leave the state after they graduate. With an aging engineering workforce and growing demand, we want to keep more of that talent here. The Illinois Engineering Initiative offers scholarships to help build and retain engineering talent in Illinois.
Scholarship at a glance
- Award: $1,000
- Purpose: Support Illinois female students pursuing engineering and encourage retention of that talent in-state.
Who is eligible
- Female students who are currently sophomores at one of these Illinois institutions:
- Illinois Central College (Peoria)
- Kaskaskia Community College (Centralia)
- Rend Lake Community College (Centralia)
- Bradley University (Peoria)
- Southern Illinois University, Carbondale
- Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville
- University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign
Requirement before funds are paid
- The scholarship is contingent on the recipient being enrolled in — or accepted to — an ABET-accredited engineering program at one of the following Illinois universities:
- Bradley University (Peoria)
- Southern Illinois University, Carbondale
- Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville
- University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign
- University of Illinois at Chicago

- ABET refers to the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (commonly called ABET). The scholarship applies only to engineering programs accredited by ABET at the listed universities.
