GEM Fellowship Program
Scholarship Sponsored by National GEM Consortium
Purpose
The GEM Fellowship is designed to encourage talented students to pursue a master’s degree and careers in industry. It combines employer-supported practical experience with a portable academic-year fellowship (tuition, fees, and a stipend) that can be used at any participating GEM Member University where the student is admitted. Note: the financial package described applies to GEM Fellowships that begin in the Fall or later (it is not retroactive).
Who nominates or selects fellows
- Employer Fellows: applicants must be available to be selected by a sponsoring GEM employer and must have university sponsorship.
- University Fellows and Associate Fellows: these categories are nominated by the university (students do not apply directly for nomination).
Types of fellowships and key benefits
1) Employer Fellows (requires university sponsorship and employer selection)
- Full tuition and fees paid by a GEM Member University.
- Minimum $16,000 total stipend over the entire master’s program.
- Up to two paid summer internships with a GEM Employer Member.
- When the fellowship is confirmed, the GEM Member University will provide a financial contract reflecting the recommended distribution of the employer contribution.
2) University Fellows
- Full tuition and fees paid by a GEM Member University.
3) Associate Fellows
- Full tuition and fees paid by a GEM Member University.
- For master’s students: at least $8,000 stipend per year provided by the GEM Member University.
- For PhD students: at least $16,000 stipend per year provided by the GEM Member University.
Eligibility (basic requirements)
- Must be a senior or already graduated from an accredited engineering or computer science program at the time of application.
- Minimum cumulative GPA: 2.8 / 4.0.
- Employer Fellows must contractually agree to intern for two summers with their sponsoring GEM Employer, starting the summer after sponsorship.
