Healthy Communities Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Patrick Woolley Attorney at Law
Overview
Patrick Woolley cares about building healthy, sustainable communities. He believes local efforts — from improving food access and clean water to organizing community sports and outdoor activities — create stronger, healthier places to live. To support students who share that commitment, Attorney Woolley established the Healthy Communities Scholarship.
What the scholarship awards
- One student will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
- Deadline to apply: May 31, 2024.
Who is eligible
To apply you must meet all of the following:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited community/junior college, undergraduate, or graduate program anywhere in the United States — or be a high school graduate/GED holder who is about to begin college-level study.
- In good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Able to demonstrate a commitment to helping others, with personal examples of how you have encouraged sustainable or local health initiatives in your community.
What to submit
Prepare the following materials:
- Resume with current contact information.
- A 500-word personal statement describing past and future dedication to healthy communities and sustainable initiatives. Explain how you would use your education to promote accessible local health and activity programs.
- An up-to-date transcript from your current institution (unofficial transcripts are acceptable). First-year students may submit unofficial transcripts from their most recent institution along with unofficial documentation from their current school.
A few quick tips for the 500-word statement (how I’d advise students)
- Lead with a clear example: the project, program, or role you were involved in.
- Explain your actions and responsibilities — be specific about your contribution.
- Include evidence of impact: people reached, improvements made, or lessons learned.
- Tie it to the future: how will continued education amplify your work?
- Keep it focused and proofread carefully; 500 words is short, so every sentence should count.
Reminder
Assemble your materials and submit them by May 31, 2024. One recipient will be selected for the award. For questions or submission details, please refer to the official scholarship posting or contact the scholarship organizer.
