Tarrant County Mental Health Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Mental Health America of Greater Tarrant County
Every year, scholarships are granted to students in Tarrant County who are working towards careers in mental health and wellness, with one scholarship being distributed each semester. This program, which the Mental Health America of Greater Tarrant County (MHATC) takes great pride in managing, has been made possible thanks to the following sponsors:

- The Linda Lyons Memorial Scholarship
The MHATC Board and Scholarship Committee are responsible for processing and distributing these scholarships annually.
Key Dates:
- Fall Application Deadline: June 15
- Spring Application Deadline: November 15
- Summer Application Deadline: March 15
- Fall Award Notification: July 15
- Spring Award Notification: December 15
- Summer Award Notification: April 15
Eligibility Criteria:
1. Applicants must be U.S. citizens residing in Tarrant County.
2. They must be in good standing with their college or university.
3. They should be enrolled in or have declared a degree plan in disciplines like psychology, social work, psychiatry/mental/behavioral health, social and behavioral sciences, behavioral / cognitive neuroscience, mental health or rehabilitative counseling, cognitive development, nursing, etc.
4. Although a GPA of 3.0 is preferred, candidates with strong applications will also be considered.
Application Process:
1. Write an essay (200-400 words) discussing any personal, professional, academic, or volunteer experiences you've had with mental/behavioral health issues (including addiction) and how they've influenced your life and career choices.
2. Write a statement (100-200 words) about your goals and how you plan to use the knowledge gained from this scholarship.
Email Application Format:
1. Include Date, Name, Contact Information, City of Residence, and Coursework Enrolled.
2. Include Coursework Enrolled Applicable to this Scholarship and Declared Degree.
3. Body of the email should contain the Essay, Statement, and current GPA.
4. Applications should be sent to Board.member@mhatc.org.
Selection Criteria:
1. Applicant must reside in Tarrant County.
2. The essay should be well-written, free of grammatical errors, show rational decision-making skills, empathy, and compassion. Lessons learned should be feasible, and the application of knowledge should be reasonable.
3. The coursework or degree plan should meet the required criteria.
4. A GPA of 3.0 is preferred, but strong applications will also be considered.
Scholarship Amount:
- Fall & Spring recipients may receive up to $5,000.
- Summer recipients may receive up to $2,000.
