Think of this as your clear guide to the Coast Guard Exchange (CGX) Scholarship — what it is, who can apply, and what matters when you put your application together.
Purpose
- The CGX Scholarship was created to help members of the Coast Guard family pay for undergraduate college. It awards one-time scholarships of $2,000 to outstanding applicants. The number of awards each year depends on available funding.
Who is eligible
The scholarship is for dependent children of the following Coast Guard-related personnel:
- Active duty, reserve, or retired military members
- Current civilian NAF and APF employees
- Current Coast Guard Auxiliarists
Additional eligibility rules:
- You must be in your final year of high school (including home school) and scheduled to graduate and attend college full time the following year. If you have already graduated, you are not eligible.
- You must be planning to attend an accredited college or university for undergraduate study. Scholarships are not awarded for non-academic or certificate programs.
- Students who accept appointments to USAFA, USNA, USMA, USCGA, or USMMA are not eligible for this scholarship.
Deadline
- All applications and supporting documents must be submitted to the CGX Scholarship Committee by 28 February (each year). There are no extensions, so plan ahead and get your materials in early.
How awards are decided
- Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement and a balanced view of accomplishments, interests, participation, and demonstrated leadership in both school and community/volunteer activities.
