The universe is complicated — full of puzzles and patterns — but it’s not beyond our understanding. As a teacher, I’ve seen how a single curious student can change the questions we ask and the way we look at the world. That’s why it’s important to support young people who want to dig deeper and learn how the world works.
About the scholarship
Sean Carroll, a physicist and philosopher who hosts the Mindscape podcast, values the pursuit of understanding from many angles. Mindscape is built around the idea that exploring big questions — in science, philosophy, the arts, and beyond — is one of the most important things we can do. The Mindscape Big Picture Scholarship was created to help students who share that passion get the education they need.
Who should apply
This scholarship is open to students with a genuine curiosity about the universe, whether you plan to study physics, biology, mathematics, philosophy, literature, or any other field that seeks to explain or illuminate our existence. We will give priority to applicants from underrepresented communities in these fields and to first-generation college students.
Key details
- Award: Each scholarship recipient will receive $10,000 to put toward undergraduate tuition.
- Matching: Sean Carroll will personally match donations dollar-for-dollar up to a total match of $10,000.
- Multiple recipients: If enough funds are raised, more than one student may be awarded this year. If funds are insufficient to support an additional $10,000 award, remaining money will carry over to future years.
