What the Smith Scholarship offers
- Renewable awards for students attending a 4‑year university or an accredited trade school.
- Up to $15,000 per year.
- Funds are flexible — they can cover more than just tuition, books, and housing, which makes this one of the more unique scholarships available.
Why this scholarship exists
- Mission: To help Nebraska graduating seniors from underrepresented backgrounds who demonstrate academic promise, leadership, determination, and a desire to make a positive impact, by supporting their post‑secondary education.
Who is eligible (summary)
- 2026 graduating senior from a Nebraska public, private, or charter school, a recognized home school association, or a student who has obtained a GED.
- Ethnic minority status.
- Household income under $75,000 (you do not need to submit financial documents with the initial application; finalists may be asked to provide them).
- Plan to begin freshman year of post‑secondary education the following academic year.
- Legally present in the United States.
Application basics and materials
- Application period: October 1, 2025 – February 1, 2026.
- No minimum GPA, SAT, or ACT score required.
- Required uploads: essay and high school transcript.
- Letters of reference: two requested; one is required. You can request references through the submission portal.
