DAR Scholarships

Scholarship Sponsored by Daughters of the American Revolution

Value: $20,000
Awards Available: 37

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the American Indians Committee present a plethora of scholarship opportunities for students. Each scholarship has its unique set of criteria and may necessitate the submission of specific documents. The scholarships span a wide array of fields, including but not limited to nursing, law, business administration, English, math, chemistry, music, history, government, horticulture, and education.

Two scholarships are specifically designed for Native American students, requiring proof of membership in a federally or state-recognized tribe. Over twenty scholarships are available for high school seniors, college undergraduates, and graduate students. Additionally, two scholarships are exclusively for DAR members or their descendants, requiring proof of relationship to a DAR member.

As you embark on the process of applying for these scholarships online, ensure you have the necessary documents and information at hand. All information should be typed or computer-generated. If you mistakenly upload a document, instructions for its removal can be found in the FAQ section of the application.

The required documents include a personal statement outlining your career objectives, recent transcripts from your high school and/or college, information specific to certain scholarships (such as proof of tribal membership or special test scores), proof of U.S. citizenship, and a one-page document detailing your extracurricular activities, honors, and scholastic achievements.

You will also need to solicit letters of recommendation from at least two, but no more than four individuals. These individuals could be teachers, counselors, coaches, mentors, spiritual leaders, administrators, co-workers, or supervisors. Relatives, however, are not eligible to provide recommendations.

All applicants will receive an email notification from DAR Academic Works by the second week of May, regardless of whether they have been selected as a scholarship recipient.

If you are fortunate enough to be selected as a recipient of a DAR Scholarship, you will be required to provide an official copy of your transcripts and complete a scholarship acceptance form. The scholarship award will be sent directly to your academic institution and can only be used for expenses such as tuition and fees, room and board, books, and other allowable expenses. Please note that each applicant is eligible to receive only one scholarship from DAR each award cycle.

If you have any questions or need further clarification, please feel free to contact us at scholarships@nsdar.org or reach out to the National Vice Chairman responsible for each scholarship. Their contact information can be found on the DAR website.
