Maine Nursing Student Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by American Nurses Association Maine
Understanding the Scholarship
The ANA-Maine is proud to offer two annual scholarships aimed at supporting nursing education. These scholarships are generously funded by contributions from ANA-Maine members, community members, and various other benefactors. Each year, the recipients of these scholarships are honored at the annual Scholarship Soiree and Awards Presentation event, held in the fall. The scholarships, each amounting to $2,000, are awarded to one student enrolled in an accredited pre-licensure registered nursing program and one registered nurse enrolled in a master's or doctoral nursing program.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility for these scholarships is determined by a set of specific criteria. Applicants must be currently enrolled and matriculated in a Maine state-approved, accredited registered nursing program leading to an associate degree, baccalaureate, masters, or doctoral degree in nursing. Doctoral candidates studying in out-of-state programs may also apply, provided they maintain permanent residency in Maine. Applicants must be enrolled at least half-time and have successfully completed 30 credits of their program curriculum. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required, and applicants must be in good standing with their academic institution. Finally, applicants must be a member of ANA or an ANA-Student Subscriber.
Scholarship Award Timeline
Recipients of the scholarships are notified by September 1st each year. They are then invited to attend the Scholarship Soiree and Awards Presentation event, where they will be recognized and receive their awards.
Selection Process
The selection process for the scholarships is carried out by the student affairs committee. The committee chair, along with three other members, will evaluate each application using a specific rubric. This evaluation is conducted as a blind review to ensure fairness. The awardees are then announced to the ANA-Maine Board prior to the fall annual meeting.
Required Application Documents
Applicants are required to submit several documents along with their application. These include a copy of their most recent transcript and degree audit, proof of ANA-Maine membership or Student Nurses’ Association Membership, an essay describing how nursing has or will impact their life (one page, single-spaced), and one professional or academic letter of recommendation.
Applications can be accessed starting April 1st, and the deadline for submission is September 1st.
