The study must be conducted in the United States and all funds must be used within the country.
The fellowship lasts for one academic year and cannot be extended or deferred.
The de Karman Fellowships are available to PhD students from any field of study, including international students, who are currently studying at one of the listed California universities. Only those PhD candidates who are expected to defend their dissertation around June 2026 are eligible for a 2024-2025 Fellowship.
Undergraduates, master’s degree students, and postdoctoral scholars are not eligible. Applicants from the Humanities will receive special consideration.
