Maxwell Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Edmund F. Maxwell Foundation
Overview The Edmund F. Maxwell Scholarship helps graduating high school seniors from Western Washington attend a four‑year private college in the U.S. For students who begin college in the 2026–27 academic year, the award amount is $5,000 per year. The scholarship may be renewed for up to three additional undergraduate years (a total of four years) if the student makes satisfactory academic progress. Renewal requires a short annual renewal form. Standardized test scores (optional for 2026–27, but recommended) - The Trustees generally look for combined SAT Evidence-Based Reading & Writing + Math scores ≥ 1200 or ACT composite > 26 for incoming freshmen. For 2026–27, submission of scores is optional but strongly encouraged. The Trustees may, at their discretion, consider applicants with lower scores. How to apply (step-by-step) 1. SAT/ACT score report (optional for 2026–27, but highly recommended) - Screenshots are not accepted. Choose one of these verification methods: - Scores reported directly on your official transcript by a school staff member, OR - Electronic delivery from the College Board or ACT to the Foundation. - When ordering electronic reports, use the Foundation’s institutional codes: - College Board (SAT): 6697 - ACT: 7900 (search by code — the name search may not find us) - If you don’t have SAT/ACT scores to report, enter “N/A” in the SAT/ACT field on your application. - Note: Some applicants may qualify for College Board fee waivers — check the College Board website for details. Renewal rules - To receive the scholarship in years 2–4, you must reapply each year using the Foundation’s online renewal form. - Renewals depend on continued eligibility and satisfactory academic progress consistent with the original award criteria. Important notes and practical tips (from a teacher’s perspective) - This scholarship is intended to help with education costs—not to replace institutional grants a college may provide. It can, however, be used to reduce loans or work‑study requirements. - A few colleges reduce institutional aid when outside scholarships are received; if your college has that policy, the Maxwell award may not be available at that institution. Discuss this with your college financial aid office. - Scholarship funds are paid directly to the college or university you will attend. - The Foundation does not discriminate based on race, religion, gender identity, national origin, sexual orientation, or disability. - Start early: request transcripts and score reports well before the May 29 deadline, and save drafts of your application. - If you qualify for need‑based aid, talk to your financial aid advisor to understand how an outside scholarship might change your overall aid package. If you want, I can turn this into a printable checklist you can use to track completion of each item.
