Community Foundation Serving Western Virginia Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Community Foundation Serving Western Virginia
About the Community Foundation
Since 1988 the Community Foundation has served our region: the cities of Roanoke, Salem, and Martinsville, and the counties of Roanoke, Botetourt, Craig, Franklin, Henry, Patrick, and Alleghany. People here care a lot about their communities, and we’re proud to partner with generous donors to support students like you.
Who may apply
Any of the following may apply:
- graduating high school seniors
- current college students
- non‑traditional students planning to attend a college or university
Important: each scholarship has its own eligibility rules. Read the individual scholarship descriptions to confirm you qualify.
How the online application works (one main application, sometimes more)
The online system is designed to match you to scholarships based on your answers. Start by completing the initial application — this is the required first step and it can put you in consideration for over 80 scholarship opportunities.
What happens after you submit the initial application
- For many scholarships, the initial application is all that’s required. Those will appear as “submitted” and you don’t need to do anything else.
- For other scholarships you’ll see a status of “draft.” That means additional materials are required before you can be fully considered. Typical supplemental requirements include brief extra questions, an essay upload, or letters of recommendation requested from a third party.
- To finish those opportunities, open each one marked “draft,” follow the instructions, upload or request what’s needed, and then click “submit application” for that specific scholarship.
A simple checklist before you submit
1. Complete the initial application carefully.
2. Review the scholarship list and note any marked “draft.”
3. Provide any supplemental materials requested and submit each opportunity marked “draft.”
4. Confirm each opportunity you want to be considered for shows “submitted.”
If you are awarded a scholarship
Scholarship checks are typically sent directly to your college or university (in your name) on or around June 30th. You usually will not receive the physical check yourself.
If you have questions as you work through the system, contact the Foundation’s office — we’re here to help you through the process. Good luck!
