Our ideal candidates are students who exhibit exceptional character, demonstrate a thirst for knowledge, and possess the potential to become influential leaders.
We are looking for individuals who have already made a positive impact in their school or community, and who have the ambition and determination to make an even greater difference in the future. These are the students who inspire and motivate others to follow in their footsteps.
We value self-starters who are committed to personal growth and learning, even when faced with challenges. These students are not afraid to step out of their comfort zones, and they have the resilience and tenacity to overcome obstacles and achieve success.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE ROAN SCHOLARSHIP:
To be considered for the Roan Scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:
- They must be a graduating high school senior who:
- Resides in Tennessee or one of the neighboring states of Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, or Virginia, and completes a Roan application; OR
- Is nominated by a high school in an eligible county (within Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, or Western North Carolina); OR
- Has residency in one of the eligible states but attends high school outside the Roan footprint, and completes a Roan application.
- They must be a competitive applicant to East Tennessee State University (ETSU), on track to graduate from high school in the current academic year and to start at ETSU in the fall.
- They must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
HOW TO APPLY:
If you are a high school senior living in one of the states mentioned above and you believe you meet the criteria, we encourage you to apply directly to the Roan Scholarship each fall. If you reside in an eligible county, you may also speak with your school counselor about the possibility of being nominated by your high school.
