ASBC Foundation Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Alfred Street Baptist Church
Here’s a clearer, teacher-friendly version you can use or share with students.
What the ASBC Foundation Scholarships are
- Two scholarship programs are offered:
- Millennium Scholarships — Funded by Alfred Street Baptist Church and the ASBC Foundation. Two of these are awarded each year. Each award is $20,000 total, paid as $5,000 per year for four years.
- Legacy Scholarships — Funded by individuals or groups. Award amounts vary (typically $1,000 to $7,500). Most are one-time awards; a few are renewable for up to four years. Donors may add their own selection criteria in addition to Foundation requirements.
Who is eligible to apply
To be considered, applicants must meet all of the following:
- Graduate from a high school in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area by June 30 of the application year. The metro area includes:
- Washington, D.C.
- Alexandria, Arlington County, Fairfax County, Falls Church, and Prince William County (VA)
- Prince George’s County, Montgomery County, and Charles County (MD)
- (If you are a member of Alfred Street Baptist Church, you may live in other counties in Maryland or Virginia and still be eligible.)
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Have been admitted to — and be committed to attending — a four-year college or university.
- Demonstrate a commitment to community service.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. SAT and/or ACT scores, if provided, are considered a plus.
- Demonstrate financial need.
How to apply
- All applicants must submit the application online.
- All required supporting documents (transcripts, recommendation letters, and test scores) must be uploaded through the online application system and should be signed or certified by a counselor or other school official when required.
- If your school’s policy prevents electronic submission of official documents or requires a fee for electronic requests, you may mail physical copies of supplemental materials (transcripts, recommendations, test scores signed by a school official). Mailed documents must arrive on or before the application deadline to be considered.
Quick tips (from a teacher)
- Start early: request transcripts and recommendations well before the deadline.
- Keep proof of college admission and any documentation of service and financial need handy.
- If anything is unclear—especially about residency rules or what counts as “committed to attend”—contact the Foundation for clarification.
If you want, I can help you draft a checklist or timeline for gathering materials and meeting the deadline.
