South Dakota Bankers Foundation Scholarship

Purpose
- The South Dakota Bankers Foundation awards scholarships to help build the state’s banking workforce by supporting students who plan to pursue careers in banking or financial services.
Who may be nominated
- A bank should select the student. Eligible students are:
- South Dakota college sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate students, or
- Second-year students at a South Dakota technical college,
- Who intend to seek employment in a banking or financial services organization.
- Students may be studying finance, business, IT, HR, marketing, or related fields — the key requirement is their intent to work in the banking industry.

How the scholarship is administered
- After a bank selects a recipient, the bank notifies the Foundation with the student’s name and school.
- The Foundation issues the scholarship check directly to the educational institution on behalf of the student.
- The scholarship request form is available online.
Amount and allocation
- The award is $4,000. That amount may be split among multiple students if the bank chooses.
- No matching funds are required from the bank.
Rules and special cases
- Priority is given to first-time applicants.
- Scholarship recipients must sign a release permitting the Foundation to use their name and likeness.
- If a bank wishes to award a scholarship to one of its employees or an employee’s child, that choice must be approved in advance by the Foundation Board.
- If total requests exceed available funds, awards will be prorated so more member banks can be served.
