Modoc Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Modoc Nation
Wak li si,
I’m glad you’re exploring post-secondary options — the Modoc Post-Secondary Scholarship can be a great help. Below I’ve organized the information into a clear checklist and plain-language rules so you can quickly see whether you qualify and what to expect.
Eligibility checklist (you must meet all of these)
- Be an enrolled member of the Modoc Nation for at least one full calendar year.
- Have a high school diploma or GED.
- Have no outstanding debt to any previously attended higher education institution.
Important limit
- Modoc Nation will fund only ONE degree, diploma, or vocational certificate per student.
Available scholarship awards
- Bachelor’s degree: $9,500 per semester, up to 8 semesters.
- Graduate (Master’s) level: $7,500 per semester, up to 4 semesters.
- Ph.D. or J.D.: $7,500 per semester, up to 6 semesters.
- Medical Doctor program: $7,500 per semester, up to 8 semesters.
- Vocational/Technical trade programs: $6,000 per semester.
Key rules and guidelines
1. No summer funding. Modoc scholarships do not cover summer sessions.
2. Academic progress and reinstatement:
- If you fail to meet the scholarship’s minimum requirements, you will be suspended from the program.
- To be reinstated you must, without Modoc Nation funding, enroll in and pass at least 12 credits in a single semester/term with a minimum GPA of 2.0.
3. All awards are tentative and require Tribal approval. No funds are guaranteed until a check is issued.
4. Late applications (received or postmarked after the deadline) will be returned and will not be funded.
5. All students must apply for the Pell Grant (apply at www.fafsa.ed.gov). Doing so will not affect your eligibility for the Modoc scholarship.
6. Funding levels and rules are subject to change at any time.
7. Part-time award option (for students taking 6–11 credits):
- Part-time award = $2,000 per semester or $1,333.34 per term.
- To qualify you must be employed at least 20 hours per week and provide proof of employment and hours.
- These part-time semesters/terms count toward your total allowable award limit.
Next steps (recommended)
- Confirm you meet the eligibility checklist.
- Apply for FAFSA/Pell grant now (it’s free).
- Gather proof of Modoc enrollment, your diploma/GED, and records showing no outstanding institutional debt.
- Watch the scholarship deadline and submit your complete application on time.
If you want, I can help you turn this into a one-page checklist you can print and use while you gather documents.
