Mission
The Bay Area SMACNA Scholarship Fund exists to expand educational opportunity. We support students who have shown strong academic achievement, meaningful community service, and active participation in extracurriculars. Our goal is to help create a community where educational success is attainable for everyone, regardless of financial circumstances.
What the program offers
- Each year the Bay Area SMACNA Scholarship Trust provides at least 40 scholarships for students pursuing bachelor’s degrees.
- Most awards are for students in engineering and construction-related fields, but students in other disciplines have also received scholarships.
- Regular awards can be up to $6,000 each and are intended to cover tuition and books only.
- Trustees may also award a single Hardship Scholarship of up to $15,000 to an applicant in the sheet metal/HVAC field who demonstrates significant financial need.
Additional scholarship benefits
- Students who attend the intern training day and complete an internship with a Bay Area SMACNA contractor receive an additional scholarship equal to 50% of their original award.
- Scholarship recipients may be given preference for paid positions in the Bay Area SMACNA Summer Intern Program.
Payment and restrictions
- The Scholarship Fund can pay awards directly to the recipient’s college or university.
- Awards will not exceed the actual cost of tuition plus books and may be used only for those two categories.
