At Sussman Law Firm, we deeply value the transformative power of education and the indomitable spirit of immigrants and first-generation students. In recognition of these values, we are delighted to present the Empowering Immigrants Scholarship. This scholarship, worth $1,000, is designed to provide financial support to students who have surmounted significant challenges on their path to higher education, while also celebrating the rich tapestry of stories that contribute to the diversity of our communities.

If you are an immigrant or the first in your family to pursue a college education, we encourage you to share your unique narrative. In an essay of 750-1000 words, we invite you to recount your personal or familial immigration journey, the hurdles you've overcome, and your educational aspirations. We look forward to acknowledging the tenacity and spirit that propels students like you towards success.

Eligibility Criteria

• The scholarship is open to current high school seniors, vocational students, college students, or graduate students who are legal residents of the United States, residing in any of the 50 states or the District of Columbia. Applicants must be enrolled in a vocational program or a two- to four-year post-secondary institution for the Spring 2026 semester.
• Employees of Sussman Law Firm, their immediate family members (including parents, children, siblings, and spouses), and anyone living in the same household (irrespective of their relationship), are ineligible to apply for this scholarship.
• Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and maintain good academic standing to be considered for this scholarship.

Application Guidelines

• Applicants are required to submit a 750 -1,000 word essay in response to the following prompt: Are you an immigrant or the first in your family to attend college? We invite you to share your unique story! Tell us about your or your family’s immigration journey, the challenges you’ve overcome, and the dreams that fuel your educational journey. This is your opportunity to inspire others and highlight the spirit that characterizes students like you!
• Please be aware that all essays will be checked for AI writing. If AI writing is detected in the essay, the application will be disqualified.
• Applicants must submit a professional resumé detailing their experience, both professional and academic.
• Applicants must provide a transcript from their current school. First-year college students, graduate students, or individuals who have recently transferred schools may submit an unofficial transcript from their current school, along with the most recent official transcript from their previous school. High school students can submit proof of acceptance to their college or university.
• Preference will be given to students either from or attending secondary school in North Carolina.
