Devine Family Scholarships

Scholarship Sponsored by University of Guelph

Value: $50,000.00
Awards Available: 2
Deadline : Apr 15, 2026

Here’s a clearer, teacher-friendly version of the scholarship description. I’ve organized it so a student can quickly see who is eligible, what the award is worth, and exactly what they need to do.

Devine Family Scholarship (established by Mr. Peter J. Devine, with OTSS matching)
Purpose and background
- Established by Mr. Peter J. Devine (former University of Guelph Board of Governors member) with matching funding from the Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS) program.
- Designed to help students from groups underrepresented in post-secondary education access and complete an undergraduate degree.

Value and duration
- Up to 2 awards, each valued at $50,000 total.
- Payable over four years (renewable each year for years 2–4).
- Renewal conditions: continued demonstrated financial need, full-time registration (minimum 2.0 credits per semester), and meeting OTSS program terms.

Who is eligible
- Incoming undergraduate students to any University of Guelph degree program with at least an 80% admission average.
- Priority groups: Indigenous students (First Nations, Inuit, Métis); students with disabilities; racialized students (preference given to Black Canadian students).
- Must meet government-mandated OTSS requirements (see General Statements on Awards).
- Citizenship eligibility: Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and protected persons.

How and when to apply (important—follow these steps)
1. Apply for admission to the University of Guelph. After you apply, you will receive an acknowledgement email from Admission Services.
2. As soon as you get that acknowledgement, complete the online Entrance Financial Need Assessment Form (E.N.A.F.).
3. Complete the Devine Family Scholarship Application.
- Both parts (E.N.A.F. + Devine Family application) must be submitted to be considered.
- Deadline: April 15 (of the application year). Scholarship offers are made in May. Recipients must be registered in the fall to receive the award.

Other conditions
- This award cannot be held at the same time as the President’s Scholarships or the Lincoln Alexander Chancellor’s Scholarships, but it may be held with other entrance awards.
- Minimum registration requirement: at least 2.0 credits per semester.

Donor
- Mr. Peter J. Devine, with matching support from the Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS).

If you’d like, I can turn this into a checklist you could print or a short email template you could send to students reminding them of the April 15 deadline.
