Stephen J. Brady Stop Hunger Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Sodexo Foundation
Think of the Stephen J. Brady Stop Hunger Scholarship as an opportunity for students who don’t just care about a problem — they act on it. Since 2007 the program has honored 91 national scholars and 252 Emerging Leaders, distributing more than $1.2 million in scholarships and grants to young people who are making measurable progress against childhood hunger. The scholarship is named for Stephen J. Brady, the Foundation’s founder and an energetic champion in the fight to end hunger.
Who this is for and what it rewards
- Eligible students: ages 5–25 who are taking concrete steps to reduce food insecurity in their communities.
- What the selection committee looks for: creativity, leadership, and demonstrable impact — not just good intentions, but real results (awareness campaigns, food drives, program creation, partnerships, etc.).
- National scholar award: $10,000 for the student’s education plus a $5,000 grant for the hunger-relief charity they support. National scholars also attend the Sodexo Charity Classic, where they can meet leaders who back the Stop Hunger mission.
Quick practicals
- Annual application window: September 5 through November 5.
- Tip from a teacher: when you apply, show evidence of outcomes (numbers, testimonials, photos), explain your role clearly, and describe how your work could scale or inspire others.
If you or a student in your classes is active in fighting childhood hunger, this is a great program to consider — it rewards impact and helps connect young leaders with resources and networks to grow their work.
