Overview - AMVETS awards scholarships and grants to veterans, active-duty service members (including National Guard and Reserves) and to their spouses, children, and grandchildren. - One scholarship opportunity is for up to $12,000 and is intended for students pursuing an undergraduate degree only. Phase Two — Essay and demonstrated merit: quality of the essay and volunteer/service record. 3. Phase Three — Financial need and award notification: verification of need and final selection. Who is eligible (quick summary) - U.S. citizen. - Honorably discharged or currently serving in the U.S. military, including National Guard and Reserves (honorable/general under honorable conditions). - Enrolled (or accepted) as a regular student in an eligible undergraduate degree program at an accredited four‑year college or university. No graduate students. - Demonstrated financial need. - Not in default on a federal student loan. - Willing to allow AMVETS to publicize the scholarship award. Required documents (prepare these in advance) - Proof of service: honorable discharge (DD‑214), veteran record, or a current letter from your command. - High school transcripts or diploma showing GPA (or college transcripts if applicable). - FAFSA Submission Summary from Federal Student Aid (www.studentaid.gov). - Acceptance letter from an accredited four‑year college/university (if not currently enrolled). - Student resume highlighting high school accomplishments, extracurricular activities, and volunteer/community service. - A 400–500 word themed essay (theme appears on the application). - School expense documentation or publications (if applicable). - Tax forms may be requested but are not always required. Notification - Winners will be notified by email in late June to early July. - Scholarship recipients will be listed on the AMVETS scholarships page in August: www.amvets.org/scholarships.
