ExploraVision Awards

Scholarship Sponsored by Toshiba

The Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision STEM competition serves as an excellent platform for K-12 students in the U.S and Canada to hone their critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative skills. This competition can be participated in virtually or in person.

Eligibility Criteria

For students to be eligible, they must fulfill the following conditions:

• They must be citizens of the United States or Canada, residing within these countries, U.S. Territories, or attending a Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) school abroad. They should be enrolled full-time in a public, private, parochial, virtual school, or home school.
• The age limit for participants is 21 years.
• Employees of the National Science Teaching Association, NSTA board members, ExploraVision judges, and their respective families are not eligible to participate.
• Previous regional or national finalists in ExploraVision can only compete in subsequent years with a new team — that is, with students who have not previously been selected as ExploraVision regional or national finalists.
• Students must participate as a team of 2-4 students with a teacher/coach and an optional mentor. Individual entries are not accepted.
• Each student is allowed to submit only one project per year. However, each teacher/coach can participate in multiple projects per year.

Coaches must adhere to the following rules:

• Coaches must be at least 21 years of age.
• Coaches can be a teacher, coach, counselor, leader in a youth organization, or parent/guardian.
• Coaches must be acquainted with at least one student on the team.
• Coaches cannot serve as judges in the same competition year.

Project submissions must comply with the following rules:

• Projects that have previously won at ExploraVision’s regional and/or national level cannot be resubmitted in future years.
• Projects that have been awarded a prize in another competition cannot be submitted.
• AI and the tool ChatGPT can be utilized for brainstorming and/or researching project ideas. These should be used as a tool, but not as the sole resource for your project. Any information generated by these resources must be included in the bibliography with the proper citations from the original resources.

Categories

Teams must select the appropriate category based on the age of the oldest student on the team. Each category will be judged separately, taking into account the abilities of students in those grades.

ExploraVision has four categories:

• Primary Level (Grades K – 3)
• Upper Elementary Level (Grades 4 – 6)
• Middle Level (Grades 7 – 9)
• High School Level (Grades 10 – 12)

Project Requirements

A complete project submission must include:

• A title (maximum 50 characters)
• An abstract (maximum 150 words)
• The project description (maximum 11 pages)
• A bibliography
• Five sample Web pages
