- There is no requirement for applicants to be related to a member of the Elks.
- High school graduates are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
- Applicants must hold U.S. citizenship at the time of application submission; unfortunately, permanent legal resident status does not qualify.
- The scholarship is only available to students who plan to enroll in four-year undergraduate degree programs at accredited U.S. colleges or universities.
Application Process:
The deadline for the 2026 MVS application is November 12, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.
Awards:
The Elks National Foundation will grant 500 four-year scholarships to the top-rated applicants in the 2026 competition. The competition is separate for male and female students.
The scholarships, known as the Most Valuable Student scholarships, range from $1,000 to $7,500 per year. They are designed for students pursuing a four-year degree on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours) at a U.S. college or university. All scholarships are awarded in the form of certificates, conditional upon the winner's full-time enrollment at an accredited U.S. college or university.
Please note that the Elks National Foundation's Chicago office will announce the 500 national winners of the 2026 contest in April 2026. It's important to distinguish these from the scholarships awarded by local Lodges, districts, and state Elks associations through this program.
The 2026 MVS Leadership Weekend will take place in Chicago from April 30 to May 3, 2026. The top 20 scholars, selected from the 500 national semi-finalists, will receive an invitation to the weekend and scholarships of $30,000. The remaining 480 runners-up will receive scholarships of $4,000. Please note that attendance at the Leadership Weekend is mandatory to be part of the Top 20 cohort and to receive the $30,000 scholarship.
