Louisiana Go Grant Program
Scholarship Sponsored by Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance
Overview
Think of the Louisiana GO Grant as a need-based “top-up” to help nontraditional and low-to-moderate income students afford college. It’s designed to work with federal aid—especially the Pell Grant—by filling in remaining demonstrated need so students can attend an eligible Louisiana institution.
Who is eligible
To qualify for the GO Grant you must:
- Be a Louisiana resident.
- File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Receive a Federal Pell Grant.
- Demonstrate remaining financial need after subtracting your Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) and any federal, state, or institutional gift aid (grants/scholarships) from your Cost of Attendance (COA).
- Be enrolled at least half‑time (minimum 6 credit hours in a semester system, or 4 credit hours in a quarter system).
Quick definitions (so the terms make sense)
- Cost of Attendance (COA): the school’s estimate of how much it costs to attend (tuition, fees, books, living expenses, etc.).
- Estimated Family Contribution (EFC): the number used from your FAFSA to measure how much your family is expected to contribute.
- Gift aid: grants and scholarships that don’t need to be repaid.
Award amounts and timing
- Awards are determined by each institution’s state allocation and their packaging policy, so amounts can vary by school and by academic year.
- Awards apply to the regular academic year (typically fall and spring). They will not be paid for summer sessions.
- Current academic year minimum: $300 annually.
- Current academic year maximum: $3,000 annually.
Renewal requirements
To keep receiving the GO Grant you must:
- File the FAFSA (or Renewal FAFSA) at least once each year.
- Continue to receive a Federal Pell Grant.
- Continue to have remaining demonstrated need after EFC and gift aid are subtracted from your COA.
- Note: the GO Grant may be renewed up to a lifetime maximum that corresponds with the Federal Pell Grant lifetime limit.
If you have questions about how your school packages GO Grant awards or how much you might receive, contact your institution’s financial aid office — they can explain your specific award and how it was calculated.
